Bring Your Book(s)!!!
The San Miguel Writer’s Conference invites all Conference Attendees to display and sell your books during the Conference.
Conference Bookstore Features:
• Hours: We will be open all hours of the Conference.
• Location: The Conference Bookstore will be set up in the same hall where Barbara Kingsolver’s Keynote Address will take place. In addition, the hall will be used for other main presenters and activities, so all Conference attendees and presenters will be in the hall several times a day during the conference.
• Author Readings: We will have a schedule for 15 minute author readings, so if you would like to read from one or more of your books, please let us know and we will put you on the schedule.
• Sales: The Conference Bookstore will handle all sales and take a 10% commission from the retail price of the book.
• Payment for Books Sold: The Bookstore will pay authors in cash in dollars or pesos (minus 10% commission), on the final day of the Conference, when unsold books are picked up. If it is necessary for you to leave the Conference early, we will make arrangements for an early payment.
Author Requirements: • Book Delivery to the Conference Bookstore: Books must be delivered to the Bookstore on either Thursday, February 18 between 1-5:00pm or Friday, February 19, 8-10:00am. Books that have been mailed to the addresses below will be taken to the bookstore and the author will only need to come to the Bookstore upon their arrival to fill out inventory forms.
Please let us know in advance how many books you expect to bring to the Bookstore (how many titles and how many of each title), so we can make sure to have the appropriate amount of space to display them.
Bring the books yourself in your luggage. This is the easiest, and least costly, way to bring your books if you are traveling from outside Mexico.
• Book Pick-Up after the Conference: All books not sold must be picked up within 2 hours after the close of the conference. Neither the Bookstore nor the San Miguel Literary Sala will be responsible for books not picked up by the close of the final day. For those leaving the Conference early, you will be able to pick up your unsold books early.
• Pricing Books: Authors must write the price in pesos and dollars in pencil on the first page (we will have a conversion chart to make this a simple task). Please make sure the price penciled inside is not more than the printed Bar Code price on the back of the book. It would be helpful if you could send us the following information BEFORE the conference to facilitate the inventory process and check-in: 1) Name of Book(s) 2) Quantity of each title 3) Price of each title in both pesos and dollars (peso is presently 12.5 to the US$) 4) Tell us if you would like to be put on the schedule to read. When you arrive and drop off your books, we’ll set a time for your reading so it doesn’t conflict with your other conference activities.
Mailing books to Mexico: Mail books directly to Mexico by Fed Ex or UPS to: Dianne Aigaki PO BOX 153-A, La Conexion Aldama #3 San Miguel de Allende, GTO 37700
Mail books to a US-side address (in Texas), where items are brought down to San Miguel every couple days. Packages are opened at the border, and you may be charged 17% customs (based on an invoice or on the printed price on the book). These state-side mail options charge $35 for a 20X20X20 box. If smaller book packages are sent, you will be charged a minimum $1.00 per book by the people who deliver the goods to San Miguel. Address to use for this option: Dianne Aigaki PO BOX 153-A 220 N. Zapata Hwy. #11 Laredo, TX 78043
We’re excited about the San Miguel Writer’s Conference 2010, and look forward to seeing you there. If you have questions about the bookstore or placing your books in our Conference Bookstore, please feel write to dianneaigaki@yahoo.com. Sincerely, Dianne Aigaki Stephen Slade
